Mobile Vending Update

The HBA sponsored an open meeting at Mount Carmel Auditorium on April 14, 2010 for interested parties to learn more about our city’s mobile vending units. HBA board member Jaime Mueller hosted the meeting.   Speakers included: Chris Pressutti, Jody Spurlock, Janine Aeh and other city officials. Attending were Greater Hilltop Area Commissioners, HBA members, Ashley Hoye of WAC, members of the Hispanic Chamber of Columbus, owners of mobile vending units and other community guests.

City officials detailed both health and code requirements and the inspection process for mobile vending units. Mobile vending owners discussed their regular inspections, including tax return information.  Questions were diverse from the audience as many were unfamiliar with the zoning codes, processes, and inspections.  The question and answer session was productive for those who needed clarification and education on the zoning and health code requirements and for those who were unaware of how the inspection process takes place.  City officials were quick to point out that these inspected mobile units are licensed for food production with vendor’s license.  Costs were detailed.

Since this meeting, City code inspectors did visit and inspect a Sullivant Avenue mobile vendor and inspection passed.

For information regarding food inspection and city code requirements, the HBA provides the information listed below or links to them.
