The HBA has received unanimous agreement by it’s members and board during presentations from Homes on the Hill, CDC and the Oberer Company to support the comprehensive housing redevelopment in the Central Hilltop area.  As residents incomes have become strained in recent years and blight is on the rise in some areas, we welcome this collaboration of both public and private partnership investing in the Hilltop that brings benefits to both residents and businesses in growth and revitalization.  Commercial and environmental improvements will also be a benefit to these feasible revitalization strategies.

Mt. Carmel West was the host of our annual dinner for 2013.  We welcomed several new members and new board members.  Board members sworn in by State Representative Mike Stinziano were officers – President Judy Andrews, 1st Vice President Dewey Stokes, 2nd Vice President Dave Miller, Treasurer Steve Barnard, Recording Secretary Sherri Sykes – Board Members at Large – Carol Schuler,Darrell Drone, Doug Henry, Freddie Rieser, Rich Riley , Scott Gosselin – Executive Secretary – Nancy Rhynard.    President Judy Andrews delivered a speech to bring together the positive growth that has come into the Hilltop by asking our business community to be supportive of one another and help enhance further growth.  Area artist Roger Williams talked about his art installation on W. Broad St in the NCR area and how public art enhances the quality of life.   Steve Torsell, of Homes on the Hill, CDC spoke about his plans to continue to bring housing improvements into the community along with continuing to serve residents to become successful homeowners.

In conjunction with the Greater Columbus Arts Council, 200Columbus, Chase Bank and partner Homes on the Hill, CDC, The Hilltop Business Association is hosting a public arts initiative on September 8 in the Highland West District of West Broad St – pARTy on the Hill

The Hilltop Community has a bold and vibrant vision for its revitalization. Public art has long been known to open minds, improve quality of life and accelerate neighborhood revitalizations. To showcase this bold vision, the Hilltop Community has commissioned well-known, homegrown artist Roger Williams to create a mural work that would visually represent the Hilltop’s vision for the future and commitment to revitalization.  Roger will have works in the new Hilton Hotel and Ron Pizzuti’s Joseph Gallery. Other works to be installed will honor the Hilltop past and present. 

To connect the community’s goals of promoting community pride, health, and beautification, Columbus Public Health’s Healthy Places Program will develop a Hilltop Art Walk that honors Hilltop’s connections to Columbus’ past, celebrates the new and existing works of art and architecture, and will annually update the Art Walk to accommodate future projects.  The Art Walk program features pocket-size neighborhood walking maps of highlighted sites, an audio tour accessible via phone or through the City of Columbus’s mobile smartphone application, MyColumbus, signage at each art walk site, and educational resources distributed to local schools encouraging art walk field trips. The Columbus Art Walk program was created in 2010 and highlights public art, architectural, and historical sites in over nine Columbus neighborhoods.

We hope to see you Saturday September 8 enjoying these public art pieces and having a healthy stroll.

Banners are up in the Highland West area of West Broad.  It’s exciting- it’s colorful and its gives the commercial district a lively face lift.  Thanks to the Highland West Neighbors Association for their persistence in getting this project completed and finalized.   Fantastic job!   You will see sponsors names on banners.   Please thank these supporters for continuing to invest not only in the Highland West District but our entire Hilltop community.

Safety and Security Seminar for Businesses

With the rash of break-ins and volume of businesses concerns the HBA brings experts to help you with solutions to security. Hear from Safety and Security experts in law enforcement, security company and insurance on what you can do to specifically help your work environment.
