Weston Area Public Meeting Part 2

You are invited to a public meeting to discuss the ongoing efforts to promote economic  growth within the West Side neighborhood surrounding the new Hollywood Casino. RCLCO, a real estate advisory firm based in Bethesda, MD, will lead the conversation and share findings from the economic development strategy. This analysis was shaped through extensive research, as well as conversations with local developers, property owners, renters, homeowners, business operators, and government officials. Please join the conversation and make your voice heard!

On October 1, 2011 the HBA and Color Blind the World sponsored the Hilltop Art Co-Op.  Despite the weather, murals were painted and hung around the neighborhood.  Channel 6 news stopped by.  See their report HERE.  More pictures from the day are in the photo gallery HERE.  The Highland West Neighbors Association also has some pictures from the day on their website HERE.

The Hilltop Business Association (HBA) would like to invite you and your business to join us for our Annual Greater Hilltop Open on Friday, September 16, 2009 at the Split Rock Golf Club, 10210 Scioto Darby Road.

We look forward to your involvement as a participant by signing up as a team or single player (see enclosed flyer) and/or, a hole sponsor ($50 for previous sponsors, $65 for new sponsor-includes sign cost).

Please come and join us for a day of fun and networking.  If you are not a member of the HBA, we hope you would consider joining us as we work to assist existing businesses, bring new businesses to the Hilltop and improve our neighborhoods.  Working together we can achieve our goals and make the changes we are seeking.  With your help those changes can come sooner rather than later!

Karen Whitman, HBA secretary and an icon in the Hilltop passed away on June 29^th.   Karen was a historian and a great defender of the Hilltop.  She continued to help the HBA up to her last day.  Many of you saw her at the Bean Dinner last weekend.

Karen Whitman called the Hilltop Bean Dinner her “backyard party” for friends, acquaintances and as she said, “people she would get to know”.  She brought her unrelenting enthusiasm into setting up commercial vendors and talking to patrons.  She welcomed her “guests” during the event.   Karen made the Hilltop Bean dinner a festive event for the entire Hilltop Community with great passion.  She loved this and we loved her for her passion.

While Karen was unable to spend as much time as she would have liked talking to friends and businesses during the Bean Dinner over the last two years, she came, she enjoyed and she made this event on her terms.  It was remarkably important to her.  A few years ago, there was rumor of a Bean Dinner cancellation due to changes in HBA officers.  When approached during an HBA board meeting of this, Karen was adamant!  “Absolutely Not! This event will go on!” and she meant it.   Karen understood how important this event was as a community social gathering.   And so we all went forward.

Visitation for Karen Whitman will be at Spears Funeral Home, Sunday, 2-4 & 6-8 PM and Monday, 2-5 PM.  Funeral service will also be at Spears Funeral home, 10:00 AM Tuesday followed by burial at Sunset Cemetery.

On Thursday, January 6th from 4-6pm at OSU’s Ohio Union, there will be a panel discussion from owners of “Thriving Small Businesses in Columbus” hosted by the Council of Graduate Students’ Sustainability & Environmental Responsibility Committee (SERC). Panelists will highlight how they have been able to keep their business successful in contrast to the volatile economy of today. Speakers will discuss their niche, modes of sustainability from both business practices and community advocacy standpoints.
